Xuan paper, also known as "rice paper" (although it is mainly composed of tree bark, straw, and bamboo pulp), is the canvas for creating artworks in the orient. It has World Heritage status, is characterised by its softness, resistance, capacity to absorb water and ink, and by its ability to be folded multiple times without tearing. Dragon Art presents you with a range of high quality cooked Xuan paper: pearl gloss. Artisans of a traditional Beijing workshop have fabricated this paper. The professional artisans select quality bamboo and immaculate white Xuan paper for the fabrication. They treat it with alum of potassium via seventy-two traditional processes, adding mica powder. The result is a high quality cooked Xuan paper with a nacre gloss thanks to the mineral mica ingredient. Cooked Xuan paper has low absorbency and ink does not dissipate easily over it, making it a type of Xuan paper easy to manipulate, and you can even color and paint it with several layers. It is ideal for painting fine details and for practising calligraphy. ¨Pearl gloss: Xuan paper cooked with mica¨ is a practical and high quality product.
